Spring Outfits that Flatter Your Skintone

Springtime, the season for pretty, flirty dresses!

Spring is here! It’s time to put away those sweaters and bring out the dresses and tops. The sun is out and I know you need the perfect outfit to soak it up. When there’s so much skin on display it’s a good idea to know what colors match your tone and what colors don’t. So here is an easy guide to help you find colors that will accentuate your natural beauty.

The first step is to understand the difference between surface tone and undertone. Surface tone is the surface skin color you have - light, fair, tan, dark whereas undertone is the color under the skin. There's a common misconception that all fair skinned people are cool toned and dark skinned people are warm toned. Not true!

Actually, you might be the same surface skin color as another person but might have a different undertone.

The three types of undertones are:

Cool (pink, red or bluish undertones)

Warm (yellow, peachy, golden undertones)

Neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones)

How do you know if you have which type?

To learn more about this and to figure out your under tone, read this article by Style Caster which explains really clearly.

Once you know your skin undertone type, below charts show you what colors will look best on you.

For those of us who have neutral tones reversible dresses work great because both sides would compliment us.

While the chart above is a good guideline it is not the final word. There are always exceptions in fashion and only you get to decide what you like wearing. I've found some pieces that are perfect for this spring, and are multifunctional to boot. I've divided them up by undertone so you can pick what's right for you.

Arianna reversible shirtsleeve spring/summer cardigan with lace detail - Jia Collection. Great for work, leisure, cruise and resort.

The Dominika convertible Poncho top with its gold metallic sheen is perfect for warm undertones and the Arianna blue mesh convertible cardigan is great for cool undertones.

The Clara reversible striped cardigan dress does double duty and will flatter both undertones as well as a neutral undertone. Just pick the side that suits you best.

The Alda reversible dress is beautiful in its simplicity. Wear the gold side for a warm undertone and the white for cool. I believe it would match either tone because of its metallic sheen.

The Adalina is the perfect summer dress with its fresh colours and flowy silhouette. Wear the white side for cool tones and the teal side for warm tones.

The Arianna reversible convertible cardigan is suitable for both cool and neutral tones based on the side and styling of the piece.

Hope this guide is really helpful for you when choosing your spring outfits. Besides colors, we also show you how to pick different styles based on your body shape, check it out. When you get both the color and silhouette that truly flatters you, you will shine!
